ITALY - BACCUS - Combating Food Crime by Strengthening Law Enforcement Cooperation

General objective: 
 
The goal of BACCUS is to disseminate, at EU level, best practices as regards prevention, investigation, contrast procedures, tools and activities for fighting food crime.
The overall objective is to promote and develop coordination, cooperation and mutual understanding among law enforcement agencies in EU-regions and other national authorities, so as to improve security for citizens through the development of common guidelines for food consumers diffused by Consumers Associations and Farmer’ Unions.  

Expected results: 

  • Identification of food sectors which are major victims of fraud, strategies, best-practice and investigative methods adopted in EU to combat food crime.
  • Preparation of training modules on the application of best-practices and investigative methods on food crime case-studies ready to be used.
  • Set-up of an e-learning platform for on-line courses, sharing of information and teaching materials.
  • Pilot trainings on simulated scenarios of preventing and fighting food crime at EU level.
  • BACCUS website as communication and dissemination tools.
  • Common guidelines for food consumers protection about food crime.
  • Widespread of project’s outcomes. Promotion of the teaching materials and of the e-learning platform to the EU actors involved in food safety.
