The Management of UNESCO Sites, An International Seminar in Croatia
19/07/2004 - Croatia can be proud of having 6 sites considered to be among “ the most beautiful sites in the world” on list of UNESCO properties. There are certain standards required to manage the sites of “the wonders of the world” and certain procedures for these sites to be chosen for the UNESCO list.
The training seminar that will take place in Spalato, Croatia, from 19 to 22 July, organized by Formez within the Balkan project, regards cultural heritage themes. The access procedures and the management of cultural sites, belonging to this prestigious list will be explained at the seminar. The Croatian Vice Minister of Culture Mr. Kresimir Filipec, the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Activities in Italy as UNESCO proxy, Hon. Nicola Bono and Mr. Antonio Marrone (Member of the Board of Directors of Formez with proxy for cultural heritage) will participate at the seminar.
All the beneficiary countries in the Balkan project will be present. ( Serbia Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Albania). Considering the importance of the Formez initiative and the high institutional level of the professors involved, all the Vice Ministers from each country have been invited.
The idea was launched during the Study Tour, that involved the referees of the UNESCO structures from Serbia Montenegro, Croatia and Macedonia, organized in Paestum on 25 to 27 May 2004, on the occasion of the second national conference of Italian sites to be inserted in UNESCO’s world property list organized by the Ministry of Italian Cultural Activities. On that occasion, Croatia was nominated to host the referees of the other countries taking place in this seminar .
The Balkan Project
The objective of the Balkan Project (Innovation and Cohesion of Central and Local P.A. in the Balkan Region) is to contribute to the modernization and the strengthening of central and local administrations of these countries, active instruments for services to the citizens. The project refers to the European Union experience, according to which the qualification of public services generates a mechanism of increasing faith in the institutions on behalf of the users, bringing about economic and social development.
More precisely, this is an integrated project of “Institutional and capacity Building” dedicated to functionaries and managers from central and local administrations, articulated in activities of assistance, training and communications.
The activities of the project are concentrated on specific themes identified with the institutional counterparts of the countries involved. The selected themes within the project are:
-Preservation and Valorisation of Cultural Heritage
-Civil Protection
-Management of the protected areas and of the natural parks
-Communication for Public Administration
The project is financed under law 84/2001 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
