Twinning Egypt on Work Safety: RTA Settlement and Start-up of the Activities
Formez has been launched toward new important international scenarios in the sphere of the process of Institution Capacity Building which has been realized through the administrative Twinning tool under the broader Community Programme SAAP “Support to the Egyptian European Association Agreement Programme”.
Formez together with five key partners, namely the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Health and Social Policies, INAIL, ISPESL, Italia Lavoro and the Tuscany Region, have been assigned the Twinning Project Egypt “Organizational Modernization of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System” aimed at supporting the Egyptian Ministry of Human Resources and Migration to undertake institutional reforms on occupational health and safety.
The SAAP programme which was sealed in December 2005 between the European Commission and the Egyptian Government, intends to pursue the implementation of the Egyptian administration capacities by supporting the most important institutional and legislative reforms.
On November 2nd, the project activities were embarked on and the Resident Twinning Adviser settled in Cairo. These activities will last for 18 months during which short and medium-term groups of experts will provide on-the-job training, support and technical assistance to central and local Egyptian institutions. The launch conference is expected to be organized at the end of January.
On the occasion of the beginning of the project activities, Formez participated in the opening of “The Jazz Factory”, the first international Jazz Festival, an important cultural event which was jointly organized by the European Commission delegation in Egypt, the embassies of the participant countries, the Egyptian Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Culture and the organization “Al Mawred Al Thaqafy”. Owing to this event, the European Commission hopes to give a key contribution to the strengthening of the relationships between East and West in a dynamic and creative manner.
Through these initiatives, Formez reaffirms its interest in being present in the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and in particular, in taking part in the sound development of Egypt both for reasons related to political and economic liaisons and the geographical position of the country. The dialogue with Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern countries is one of the pillars of the Italian foreign policy which is committed to establishing dialogue, exchange and cooperation, so as to ensure the creation of an area of peace and stability.
