The Study Visit under the Twinning Bulgaria on Cultural Goods emphasized the Project Key Points
Officials from Bulgaria's Ministry of Justice among whom the Deputy Prosecutor General Kamen Dobrinov Sitnilski, from Bulgaria's Ministry of Culture in the person of Vice Minister Todor Chobanov, and from the Judicial Policy took part in the study tour related to the Twinning Project Bulgaria BG 07 IB JH 02 UE TWL, "Strengthening the Administrative Capacity of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for fighting organized crime in the sphere of cultural goods in particular and related applicable EU acquis”.
The general aim of the project is capacity building of the Bulgarian Examining Judges in the application of laws, for the purpose of dealing with violations to the acquis communautaire concerning cultural treasures, as well as of fighting against organized crime at trans-national level and against illegal trade of cultural goods.
The study visit schedule included a series of meetings to the branches and offices of the project partners, namely the Ministry of Justice and Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and the Comando dei Carabinieri for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
The meetings were the occasion for analysing in depth the topics dealt with during the activities in Bulgaria as well as for sharing/viewing the data bank system on cultural heritage, circulation of cultural goods and related crimes.
Under the study visit, a meeting with Italy’s Under-Secretary of Cultural Heritage, Mr Francesco Giro, and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr Todor Chobanov, was held.
