BULGARIA - Strengthening of the National Surveillance System for Communicable Diseases

 
Medium – term objectives:

The primary objective of the Twinning project is to strengthen the national surveillance system for communicable diseases in Bulgaria, to ensure that Bulgaria will be in the position to successfully apply the Acquis communautaire with respect to the co-ordination of health care schemes within the European Union and to establish a nationwide early warning system to guarantee better control on communicable diseases.
In particular, the project aims to strengthen the epidemiological surveillance through the improvement of laboratory diagnosis and its reporting system and to ensure the integration of national CD surveillance system to the European network through the adoption of EU legislation and strengthening administrative capacity of the institutions involved.
Actions:

  • National legislation for the role and responsibilities of the labs in the CD surveillance process to be developed
  • Structures of national laboratory networks for CD surveillance to be implemented and developed
  • Standard Operating Procedures on CD laboratory surveillance to be prepared
  • Qualified and technical staff involved in CD surveillance in central and peripheral laboratories to be trained
