The Health and Cleanliness of Water in Poland: Formez is Partner in the Project
05/12/2006 - On November 5th, the project PHARE – Twinning Poland “Extension of the Sanitary Supervision in the area of Water Quality” commenced. The ISS (the National Sanitary Institute) is the lead structure and Formez is a partner in the area of financial management and participates in the project with its team of international experts.
The initiative involves the Polish and Italian Ministries of Health and is aimed at implementing an integrated system for managing the quality of water by concluding initiatives previously started up on the territory. The Polish beneficiaries are the Ministry of Health, the Sanitary Inspectorate and the ISS. The project aims to improve the sanitary control system to impede the threats resulting from inappropriate methods of handling, storing and distributing water and related dangers induced by the misuse of water for leisure or sport purposes; finally, to more adequately monitor the potential water radioactivity.
Yet, at the same time, objectives aimed at harmonizing with the acquis communautaire in the ambit of the European directives 98/83/EC and 89/106/Eec on water quality will be pursued. These directives aim to evaluate water risks, safeguarding human health and achieving European standards on water quality in sport and leisure centres.
For this purpose, guide-lines and procedures on the sanitary control system and the internal regulatory framework regarding methods and substances used for handling water and materials, as well as residuals which flow into water, will be elaborated. Other indications will be given for the definition of regulations on water quality regarding to sport and leisure activities, which have to reflect the Polish institutional set-up.
The project also aims to implement a system of safeguard and monitoring radioactivity in drinking water ..The pathogenic agents in water will be kept under observation.. Finally, Polish experts will come to Italy on a study visit at the ISS where they can be trained on methods and procedures for the evaluation of water and use of new laboratory methods to keep polluters under control. The activities will conclude on January 4th 2008.
